Reasons for Loving The Great Lake Taupo

It was the last stop of our New Zealand trip after Auckland, Hamilton, Matamata and Rotorua. I can’t deny that I love Taupo immediately and I won’t hesitate to come back again if I have a chance.

We took the Intercity coach from Rotorua and alighted at i-site Taupo. Until our last stop, we didn’t encounter any issue by taking the Intercity coach. The coach was clean, the seat was comfortable and they were also punctual with their schedule. Everything went according to our plan. Next to the i-site Taupo is the Great Lake Centre. I don’t know what exactly is that but the gate is interesting with its Maori’s carving.

    Why I Love Taupo

I would like to express why I love Taupo although every place has its downside no matter how good and favourable the place is.

    1. It is not a big town but yet livable

People may have different opinions about Taupo. But for me who was looking for one quieter place where I could just slow down my walk and see surrounding (for at least during those few days), I found that Taupo was just a perfect place. No high-rise buildings or skyscrapers. I felt calm although I was disturbed by a few things happened during my break at that time. But, well..the peace of the town overwhelmed me over the anxiety I had. I felt relaxed.

Most shops close early – usual practice in the Oceania countries – but we can still find eateries, restaurants or supermarket which open until later night. Public transport may not be easy but booking a cab is just as easy as making a phone call and the fare is pretty reasonable. Depends on how much we earn and how we spend but for sure the primary needs are available at our convenience. There are few good schools in Taupo which means it is a good place for both either the younger or older generation.

    2. It is a town but yet rich of natures

I could see mountains at one side and Taupo lake, the largest lake by surface area in New Zealand, at the other side. And do you see the moon on the photo? In reality, the moon looked much bigger than this. It was so big until it caught my attention. The sky seems closer to us as well. There are river, lake, mud pool, waterfalls, hot spring, and mountain – probably more but I don’t know it yet.

     3. It is located in the middle of North Island

If we see on the map, Taupo is located almost right in the middle of North Island of New Zealand which makes it good access throughout the whole island.

It takes about 4.5 hrs drive to its neighbour big city in the south, Wellington, and about 3.5 hrs drive to the north to reach Auckland city. About 4 hrs drive to go to the first city to see the sunrise, Gisborne, and about the same hours to the opposite city, New Plymouth.

By saying so, I am also telling myself that I will need to come back again to North Island! Cause I only have been to half of the island – Auckland to Taupo – not even half I would say.
I believe there are many more reasons to visit Taupo. I could only think of these from my two nights spent in Taupo. If you also think there are more reasons to visit Taupo, feel free to share with us!

Taupo, see you again next time! 🙂
