On our flight back from the USA to Singapore, we had to stopover at Tokyo (Narita International Airport). We decided to extend our stay a few days in Japan because we found that the price for a few hours transit and extend for a few days in Japan were same! Well, why not then? 🙂

About Tsukiji Market
Tsukiji Market or more well-known as Tsukiji Fish Market is located in Central Tokyo. It is the biggest wholesale fish and seafood market in the world and also one of the largest wholesale food markets of any kind. It attracts not only locals but also tourists around the world.
When I was there, I was still suffering from jet lag and wasn’t really alert and focus on what I’d seen. Hopefully, the following information will still at least give you some insight on how the Tsukiji Market looks like. 🙂
How To Get There?
There are many subway lines and they are operated by different companies in Japan. It may be quite challenging to understand for first-timer (like me). The market is located near the Tsukijishijō Station on the Toei Ōedo Line and Tsukiji Station on the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line. You can download the Tokyo Metro Subway map from Tokyo Metro website.
It is advisable to plan well if you decide to go on free and easy because the train fare is quite expensive in Tokyo. We got there from Tsukiji Station and Tsukiji Market was only a few meters walking distances from the station. We passed by Tsukiji Hongwanji Buddhist Temple along the way.
What To Do At Tsukiji Market?
There are two areas at Tsukiji Market. They called it the inner market and outer market. The inner market is where all the buying and selling transaction going on. Only licensed dealers are allowed to access this area. Tourists may visit the market daily between 5 a.m. and 6:15 a.m. and watch the proceedings from a designated area. The outer market is where we can find all the restaurants and shops selling groceries, etc.
The place was not really packed with people yet when we reached there. Around 9 plus in the morning if I am not wrong. We didn’t walk too far into the market as we only planned to stay short while to try out some food and rush to another place afterwards.
Tsukiji market is famous for its seafood. So, must-try dish certainly is something has to do with seafood. As usual, when we go to a country where we can’t speak the language, there is when your finger point is very useful! 😀 I just pointed on the picture of the food that I want.
I like fish meat, so I ordered a bowl of rice with various type of sashimi including the minced fish meat, too. It came with a bowl of soup and the free flow of tea. A chunk of wasabi paste was placed in the middle as a condiment as well. I ever heard from somewhere that Japanese like to eat fish, that’s why they are cute and have a soft jawline. Is that true? Then I shall eat more!
Was it good? Yes! It was! Although it looked plain, the fresh sashimi with soft and a bit sticky japan rice was just simply yummy! After the rice with sashimi, I also shared a bowl of noodle with my sister because we saw some people eating it and it looked delicious. :p
The noodle and soup taste good. The meat was soft, not strong in flavour though. I personally like it cause I don’t like too oily food. However, if I were to choose between those two, I will still go for rice with sashimi!
I may say, this was only an introduction trip to Japan. We will definitely back for more. Eat and see more. Oh, share more stories of course! 🙂
